'Gone to Earth'
Winter Sculpture Park 2023

'Gone to Earth’ seeks to minimise my environmental impact as an artist.  Its a hybrid of traditional, recycled & bio-degradable materials. A textile wrap, with hand woven silk and jute houses jewel-like bio-plastic windows for you to view the inner refuge for surrounding wildlife.

A modular frame means less carbon heavy transport, easier storage and recycling of the steel into a future sculpture. Non-toxic bio-materials naturally degrade over time and any remaining will be dug back into the earth.  Textiles will be recycled into future art works. The inner habitat supporting local wildlife will remain after the outer frame & textile wrap have been removed.

‘Gone to Earth’, sited in an orchard in Bexley, is on show until 29 April as part of Winter Sculpture Park 2023 https://www.galleryno32.co.uk/winter-sculpture-park.html

The work responds to the difficulties of choosing and using resources responsibly, when single use of materials is normal.

My aim was to minimise my impact, connect with nature, support biodiversity and through this work show that it is possible to make a difference.

Biography
